I still very own my beloved Gothic house, and I own one other Gothic made by the same maker, though that only opens on one side and is red brick. I am in the midst of decorating etc another Victorian Gothic. Gosh, 1/6th scale that's Barbie scale and mighty big? How fabulous! Gothic is my favorite, I am building a 1/6 scale Gothic Manor House Castle as we speak. Where are you located, do you still have the house? I am so happy you shared all these photos! Not enough words to capture how I feel about your Gothic Victorian. I think the one you saw would be a favourite of mine out of the 3, mine is most suited to its new given theme.

Yes, as you can see from Arabella's comment (see above) JS was inspired by Frances' (England) work and you can see where he was going with that with his style and that's probably why peeps think his work is hers. I have seen a number of her properties and they are totally amazing (I'd love to own one!!!!)...more finesse and detailing than John's. Sadly John died around 2001 and I have no idea how long he made the houses he did.

Have a great one Shannon! I still love seeing the different layouts. To answer your previous comment (I was meaning to reply but was tardy due to lots of things going on at the moment) , yes I saw your reply to my comment and thought I'd post the pics out of interest. Lots of people think they are made by Francis England (I think that's the name?) - I actually think her painting and aging is a bit finer and more realistic. Still, gorgeous houses. So much character. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.shannonc60https://www.blogger.com/profile/12411485172616395915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-145296680061222023.post-43169549630144314812015-04-28T20:58:39.446+01:002015-04-28T20:58:39.446+01:00Hello Arabella!
Firstly, thank you so very, very...Hello Arabella!

Firstly, thank you so very, very much for confirming the maker of the house! You have made my week and more....you'll never know how grateful I am to learn of this and an insight to him. I've googled John etc and found he had a shop on the outskirts of Rayleigh in Essex and me and family up until 2003 used to live in Westcliff on Sea, Essex. My parents used to visit his shop (I couldn't because it was upstairs) and my Mum said she used to see his workshop out the back with his houses that he made...what a small world we live in!!! On my Google travels his daughter Kellie B asked via Dolls House Emporium's Facebook page (Oct 2014) whether there was anyone who owned (and where she could find one) any of her late father's houses that he made and sold in Rayleigh.

It was a very lucky find and purchase too, as it was most sought after! I love the house immensely and it is much loved.

Thank you for your time and kindness. :o))Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15844807744316681870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-145296680061222023.post-5000349147456713652015-04-28T18:22:20.639+01:002015-04-28T18:22:20.639+01:00Well it might keep me busy filling for that time! ...Well it might keep me busy filling for that time! lol It's doesn't need heaps doing to it..but I need to get it restored and then get filling it. :o))

That was a fabulous pressie to you, how wonderful of your parents! The dolls house was made by John Strowlger of 'Miniature Mania'. This design was partly inspired by beautiful dolls house made by Frances England of 'England's Magic' JS made many nice dolls houses and then some gothic brick houses with similar interior layout. I enjoyed looking at your photos. Iam a total fan and could go on:)arabellawhitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13731401882534489189noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-145296680061222023.post-54422657179384446562015-04-26T17:24:44.708+01:002015-04-26T17:24:44.708+01:00Absolutely incredible! I've seen 2 side opening houses, but never seen 4 before. The base is solid (no void underneath as I can find) so there are practical issues for lighting. I think if this house had been made for me I would have somehow hid all the electrics in the tiny roofed part off Dolores' office. Maybe the owner wasn't worried about real lights, I have no idea.

I just adore this era, everything about it! This is the 3rd Gothic house I have in my collection and they are not that easily found! I'm doing another Gothic revival house which will be very opulent indeed on the inside, I have been collecting furniture for it. ;o)) I hope this one will be the best I can make it once its finished. ;o)Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15844807744316681870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-145296680061222023.post-13346594574312716222015-04-23T23:05:09.341+01:002015-04-23T23:05:09.341+01:00Thank you Diane! It needs some restoration, but very little given its age. I just want the inside to reflect its era better.

I was going to get a 12 roomed Gothic kit, which would have covered that entire table and it also weighed over 6 stone (not sure of the weight of this one!). Being a spinal injury and thus permanently in a wheelchair it would have bought many physical challenges when it came to making and decorating it etc., though not impossible. I saw this and saw all the major pluses for me and it made perfect sense to purchase it.

The whole family come to look at it!
