Hogwarts - Gryffindor’s Common Room Commission and more…

Well as I’m not doing any mini work at the moment and my brains are fried and dried! So, I thought I’d show you my long awaited commission for Hogwarts - Gryffindor’s Common room fireplace and accessories!

I really didn’t want to make my own fireplace for Gryffindor’s Common room as I knew it would be a devil to make, so I asked Ericka VanHorn whether she would, and I got lucky!

I received many accessories with the fireplace, these include two open books, one  of them is about  The Three Brothers and there are also two paper bundles, one on Horcruxes and the other on wands. There is a wand, a tiny orrey, potions, phials, newspapers and lots of sweets which include teeny tiny chocolate frogs! I also have Harry’s broom and Weasley Wizard Wheezes goods! There is also a wonderful standing candelabra (not photographed here, I accidentally forgot to add it to the scene!) There is also a stack of books, but Ericka forgot to add them to the parcel, so they are on their way over with some other items that I recently bought.

It arrived this week a long with lots of Harry Potter related goodies! :o)) Ericka has even added the shield above the fireplace, I know she wanted to do the proper motto for Gryffindor, but you can’t really see what it says…so I said it matters not one iota! :o))
Ericka has made Sirus Black’s face in the flames (from the scene where he is talking to Harry Potter) which I particularly love. :o)) His face and the fireplace lights up, unfortunately I haven’t finished wiring so I can’t show you. I am hopeful that Ericka will show this piece on her blog and with it lit. :o))

It is a piece that you really need to see in real life. I really can’t wait to add it properly to my scene, but Hogwarts is not done and I haven’t laid the flooring for the Common Room yet and there are light wires showing through the flooring!

Ericka informs me that Martha Puff has included my fireplace in American Miniaturist Magazine. I am thrilled to have more mini’s in a magazine, but also so thrilled for Ericka too!  Ericka has sent me a copy over with the book stack. :o)))  Once received I will show it on here.  :o)

Thank you so much Ericka! I love it and I really can’t wait to add it properly to the room! ;o))

This is the wall it will go on. The project is far from finished as you can see! :o)
The sweets that I received from Ericka too. Most will end up in Sugar Plum's Sweet Shop. :o)
I have also made some recent purchases from Nikki Rowe. I have bought some food too…well witches and wizards need to eat and most nice ones eat fairly normal food too! ;o) I also have a wonderful mandrake waiting for his pot! Lol I have a lot of projects so they will all be homed in various new homes. :o))
I love the pumpkin pies and pumpkin loaf!
 Lots of different cheeses!
All together in Hogwart's not finished kitchen! Not a place to put food either...on the dusty kitchen floor! lol

A big warm welcome to my new followers….I hope you don’t mind my ramblings and madness! :o))

    1. Hi Betsy,

So glad you like it, it was much wanted.:o))

I know it was a challenge to make, but made extra special by Sirus' face in the fire. :o))) Ericka did a wonderful job. :o)

Waiting for the fireplace was the main reason why I stopped working on Hogwarts as a whole. I couldn't fit any lights that side because I didn't know where the fireplace would start and end because I only gave Ericka the room measurements. Then I had to think about the wiring....all that is hidden under the clay and outside beam work.

I would be back working on it now under different circumstances. ;o)

In its new home it will be altogether...but I will display it as a kind of L-shape with the walled garden and greenhouse on the end (side of where the fireplace will be).

  3. I looked at your post and thought, "Didn't I just see this somewhere?" I pulled out the American Miniaturist issue and there it was! Erika did an amazing job. I can't wait to see how the finished room looks!

    1. Hi De,

Now there's a surprise huh! lol I can't wait to see the article myself, I find it rather a surreal experience to see something you own in a magazine. :o))

I have lots of plans for the room. I have the red sofa and chairs, but I plan on quite a few artisan made pieces for the room. You can't buy them and as I want it as near to the real room as I can get (in terms of what's in it), I will commission the pieces. :o)

    1. Hi Jeanette,

It was a special piece, I felt that the fireplace was a key feature to the room, it was one reason why I didn't want to tackle making it! :o) The face is amazing, I love all the smoke bellowing out of his nostrils! lol

Once the lights are fitted, and the fireplaces fitted and wired I can start to work on the outside more (the removable fronts). Most of the work needs to be done on The Great Hall, all those beams!

It has a special ceiling and that will take time to do, but as the kit is in two pieces now, and I will have more work space when I move, it will be easier for me to do. :o)

I will be thrilled once its done too...I've had this kit a while (my second kit...I'm nearer 30 now!) lol

Ericka did take photo's showing it lit up, she is going to do a blog post on this piece, so keep a look out for it.:o))

    1. Hi Ewa,

I love it! Ericka wanted to do a blog post on it, but before I had received it....I made her wait! lol lol

I love it and will be thrilled to see it all fitted properly. Not sure if I will fit wall lights either side of it, or have lamps etc on the floor by it. Hogwarts has all sorts of light receptacles! lol

  7. A wonderful selection of goodies Michelle. The fireplace is amazing, you must be itching to put it in place. I don't envy you the task you have of packing all your wonderful houses or the wait before you can start playing with them again.
The good thing is you get the chance of looking through your extensive collection and getting to know them all once more.
    Lots more photos please!!

    1. Hi Janice,

I am itching Janice! It pains me having to pack it away rather than fit it.

I unpacked the witches house today, I haven't packed the contents up yet, I will do that tomorrow. They need to be packed well, not only because of the long bumpy journey but also because most of my mini's and craft room furniture will go into storage for a little while, whilst we sort out the real house and my new play area. :o)

I was amazed that I actually didn't remember some of the stuff I owned, that's not a good thing, but then again how many people remember all what they have bought lol I haven't sorted through all my mini's yet because it means I have to take it out of the drawers and pack them away properly in larger boxes (for moving) and I don't want it looking like box city in my craft room just yet!) lol

I have just paid for one large commission, that should be posted this week and Sugar Plum's Gobstopper machine should be ready this month (Dennis emailed me... :o)) ). I have just ordered a small commission for Nanny McPhee too. :o))

  9. Hi Giac,

    Thank you!

Well, considering it's only part done...the fireplace blends very well! :o) I need to work on the fireplace wall, I wasn't sure how big the fireplace was going to be, so I have some patching to do. :o)

I buy for en mass for different projects, so the more rustic items here are for a non Harry Potter. :o)

I've been busy packing and sorting parts and bits of kit out today, horrid job, I'd rather be working on them! lol

    Big hugs to you too!
    Michelle :o)
