The new look craft room is taking shape.

The new craft room is taking shape, but oh so slowly!  Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day now was it!? :o)

The furniture that I have bought so far is in situ. I plan on keeping all the furniture white even the small storage that will eventually go at the back of my craft table, this is mainly because I have two sets of soft furnishings that are both different colours etc. So the colour in the room will be made up of other objects etc. :o))
A few nice drawers to fill up!

Well, it took over a day to decide on really how I wanted it to look overall. Some ideas just didn’t look right or work at all! The room isn’t too pokey but neither is it big, but I have enough space for plans and ideas to change etc.
I had planned on moving my craft table this way, but by the time I had the moveable storage pieces in and a smaller craft table on the end, it looked too much and unorganised . So I moved it back under the window and had another idea....
Back to square one! lol  I am now having one long craft table, but bigger than the other one I had originally selected to buy. It is 175 cms long by 75 deep and I have at present 3 units that can be moved about and their tops could be used as worktop space and will eventually have permanent projects on them.
I’m no longer having the lower moveable drawer unit under the window, it looked horrid against the chest of drawer units that I have. So this will now live on the wall behind the door and in front of the pull out table.  I will be getting some more furniture (for the other wall), hopefully in March (I’m having to fit round my other financial priorities too!). A shelf unit, two narrow cabinets (one an open bookcase for books and the other a tall drawer unit to match the lower moveable drawer unit for mini‘s and/or DVD’s ) and the new craft table will be bought then.

I plan on having small unit’s of storage space at the back of my craft table for immediate needs as well as my unit under my craft table.
I love this unit, and it was solely bought for practical reasons. It moves soooo easily, though I do have laminate flooring in this room so this helps!
 This is tidy...
This is the descent into madness! Arrrgh! lol

I have been busy for 2 days so far unpacking and moving mini’s about. At the best of times my craft room has looked like a bomb has hit it, but you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs as they say!  I have also bought in all my mini’s from the Summer House, I just have a few mini’s in the garage that need to bought in too; I will get them in over the weekend. :o)
I have some (cough) ‘form’ of organisation at present (but not in many drawers as yet!!), but until I truly work out what I want where and what drawer I don’t have the final system in place. I also don’t want to spend heaps on proper inner drawer storage, this is because mini’s won’t always be in there and I don’t want to end up with loads of good storage and nothing to fill them with. So, I am opting for catering plastic boxes, they come in all sorts of sizes, you can bulk buy and they are cheap…they can also be labelled. For smaller mini’s I am going to use plastic business card boxes, again cheap to buy in bulk and they too can be labelled.  These can be placed into the bigger storage boxes too. :o)
This pull out table has been hidden for a while! It will be moved onto the other wall next to  Highgate. My Mum made the spotted box for my new décor (when it's up and in!)
Highgate dollshouse will be moved along by the door and the pull out table will be next to it. I will empty that internal cupboard and put the larger wall unit in front of it, with two new narrow units next to it.  I will completely remove the plastic drawers from this room.
This drawer is mainly filled with some of the furniture for Hogwarts. :o)
Having bought all my mini’s in from the Summer House I have now gained a lot of storage under my work bench out there. We are going to try and cut one of my plastic storage drawers and put these under my bench. The idea should work, if so, then I will the others cut in half and I can put a lot of my supplies in these drawers and make even more horizontal space in there. I can then have smaller projects out here. There is not anyway I can completely redesign my craft room to accommodate all my projects. If I was starting from scratch I probably could, but I don’t want to move everything about in there, but as luck would have it, I have space in the Summer House now. :o))
I'm not having this mix of ornaments together, but I do hang things on knobs. In my bedroom I have Christmas decorations (they don't look Chrismassy). So, a few things to brighten the room. :o))
This gorgeous little pixie was made by the supremely talented Nikki Rowe. I just love her and she sparkles too!
This is where Mrs Puddifoot's tea shop will go and Sugar Plum's Sweet Shop will go along side it, by the wall. I thought it was a different layout from what you normally see, and you get a view of the shops before you actually enter the room. :o)
This is how it will appear and look once you are in the room.

Well, I am off work till Tuesday of next week, so I hope to have the room looking fairly normal by then (until March that is!) and I may even have time to do some mini work? Hmmm maybe not, well not if I want to tidy up and sort out the Summer House too! ;o))

I'm in the middle of adding extra pages to my blog, most don't have any info. at the moment, but some will soon! The others will be updated as and when I do that project. I have more pages to be added, but I will add them at a later date. :o)

A big warm welcome to my new followers….I hope you don’t mind my ramblings and madness! :o))

  1. Love the new furniture Michelle. Can't wait to see the rest of it in place. Its going to be great.

  2. Oh love the photo with your cat on your table, Michelle!:) Cute!
Hope you will organize everything the way it will be comfy for you to work on so many great houses!

  3. The craft room is coming together great Michelle! All that storage... I can't begin to imagine how many minis you have waiting to be in houses/shops then :0!

Love the idea of two shops on the corner there, like you say, different to the normal style and diagon alley will look great along the units there! I need something like that building! I have a long wall and at the minute there's just a small desk that could probably fit three shops along and then a large plastic stacker.. I think it's the same ones as yours but I hate the clear front on them as they make everything look untidy because you can see everything stored inside them, or is that's just me ?? Lol

I was going to ask you in my last email but I forgot, are you planning on having a Floursih and Blotts along the alley? Id love to do it myself and have Lockhart doing a book signing upstairs on a balcony overlooking the ground floor with witches lining up the stairs holding stacks of his books... But acquiring so many books... I'm not sure I'd ever be able to fill it :0

Well, can't wait again to see the progress!

    Michael :))

  4. You are going to love this space once you get organized. I would love to have all that storage in one space :)

Can't wait till you get back to your projects.

  5. Hi Debbie,

    Glad you like it!

I will of course be even happier myself when it's all done! lol

It will be great to have it all in one room and a proper room too, not half and half which it has been for the last 2 or 3 years!

    Michelle xx

  6. Hi Ewa,

That cat! lol As soon as that door is open he is in exploring and causing trouble! Needless to say this is why my mini's are not in any other room without a door on it! lol Did you see him in the box too? As soon as I put it on the floor he was in it all snuggled up! lol

It will be a couple of months or more till my room will resemble what I want it to. Sorting out my mini's is the hardest and longest job of all. :o))

  7. Hi Michael,

It will take a little time to have the room how I want it…but I’m getting there. :o)

I hate the look of the plastic storage thingys myself, they merely serve as a practical purpose. I can’t see why the makers can’t make them in all white (or all one colour and then one can choose etc) and with non opaque drawers because yes, they do look mighty untidy! I think they must just assume that either peeps don’t care on the overall appearance and/or they are stored in the garage where no one will see them. I will be glad to have them out of the room. :o)) If you do have them, you could always put a piece of coloured paper or card up the front of the drawer so you can’t see the contents?

You’ll be surprised how much space a kit will take up…even the smallest ones. :o)

I’ve not completely decided on my shops, I have 2 that I’ve not fully decided on yet (lots of ideas on what they could be though). I will wait till I do them and then decide. There are 3 book shops to choose from, so you can therefore plan and lay them out as you wish. :o)

    Michelle :o)

  8. Hi Victoria,

It will be great to have it altogether and a choice where I want to work and still have a nice room to look at!

I can't wait to get mini working again, I should have time this weekend as I am coming to the end of my packing away for now. :o)

  9. This is going to be just fabulous when you have it all set up.

I like the table at the window. I have my work stations near the windows and it's really nice to have the sunshine or warm breezes (season permitting). ;)

  10. Oooh its so exciting to see your first house going in the street! How fantastic thats all going to look when in many years so many of the projects will be comp
Eted and added to the scene! Will you be adding a pavement or cobble base to the tops of the units for the street? Just cant get over what a great space you have now for both working and displaying, i wouldnt want to come out lol!! Have fun filling all those drawers, id like to be noisying in them all!! Xxxxx

  11. I just reorganised my craft rooms (yes..I have 2 ;-)), but seeing your photos I would love to start again...I love reorganizing!! It will be a wonderful room when you're ready! Have fun!!

  12. Very cool furniture! Can't wait to see it done!!

  13. It is wonderful that you can work in a separate room! I envy you! :) I will always need to be taken and preserved, all the time, when I deal with my hobby! Cool! (The table also think the window is in the best fields are in all respects.

  14. Hi Dale,

Oh I just hope so, at least it will look so much better too and all my mini‘s together. :o)

I like the window view too. I usually only work in my craft room during the colder months and then work out in my summerhouse during the spring and summer as I love to be outside with the door open listening to the radio as I work. It might be harder to decide now! Lol

  15. Hi Kate,

Sugar Plum’s will be brought up from the summerhouse next weekend hopefully, along with Slug and Jiggers. I’m not 100% sure where ole Slug’s is going…but it will be on the alley somewhere! Lol

I am going to add a cobbled street and pavement so they all sit on it. For the moment (to protect the top of the chests) I am going to add some little foam pads on the bottom of my kits. ;o)

I have two empty drawers which I am very pleased about, because it means I have space for new mini’s (some coming next week). A few too many of the drawers are a bit of a mess… no labels etc. So I will gradually do it…so no peeking yet! Lol

I’ve just ordered the rest of the furniture for the room. After emptying out the built in bookcase I had an idea…and I changed my plans (again!) lol. The furniture is due to be delivered on Friday, so next weekend I should have a more normal and tidy looking craft room. ;o)

  16. Hi Margriet,

Ah, so you know what’s it like to have 2 work areas…sometimes a good thing and sometimes not! Lol
I have to go and sort out the summerhouse after this room because that’s changed for the better too! It needs a recoat of its paint in the summer too! ;o)

I love a clear out and tidy up too, but not often mind as its rather tiring! lol

    Michelle xx

  17. Hi Jamie,

Thank you! I do like white…I have some beech furniture to lift it a bit. I can’t wait either! ;o)))

  18. Hi Anda,

Aww thank you! I am very lucky to be able to work in my own work spaces. :o)) I love the fact that I can leave things to dry and not have to pack away every time I have finished.

I like the window too! ;o) I have ordered my table and a couple of other pieces, so they will be here on Friday all being well. ;o)

  19. Love the drawers, the room is going to be great. I wish i had so many space.

  20. Your room looks fantasic.

    1. Hi Melanie,

Thank you too! :o)) I'm very happy with it.

  21. Hi Maria,

Thank you! The room is almost done now (most recent post).

A corner tucked away can be just as good. :o)
